The brief

Ingredient lists are long, hard to read and full of names nobody recognises. Sketchy Labels lets anyone photograph a label and see what’s inside, rated against published regulations and not brand opinion.

What I delivered

A product I co-founded, built from scratch across web, iPhone and Android.

  • Camera scanning that reads an ingredient list and returns a score out of 100 in seconds

  • Every ingredient rated Beneficial, Fair, Caution or Avoid, with cited sources

  • AI ingredient classification on the Claude API, checked against a database of 3,700+ rated ingredients

  • iPhone and Android apps in React Native (Expo), plus scanning on the web with no account needed

  • Household profiles that flag allergies, diets and ingredients to avoid

  • Premium subscriptions through Apple and Google in-app billing

  • Convex backend, Clerk sign-in and PostHog analytics behind a custom proxy
